TAOM 2023 News Message from the President
If you have ever attended a previous magic convention, I will bet that your first one is one of the most memorable. I will bet that your first one is one of the most memorable. My first was the TAOM 1996 in Houston. It changed my life forever. For the better!
Never previously had I been exposed to four days of nonstop amazement. Getting to meet with so many other like-minded individuals. Learning from experts and see-ing magic performed in its best light, both closeup and on stage. Staying up till late in the night watching and sharing magic with other enthusiasts.
Now 25+ years later, I can still remember learning from the likes of Vito Lupo, Keving James, Bob King, Dan Garrett, Bob Sheets and others. Not to forget that Jamie and Lisa Salinas performed at that event.
The evening shows and closeup performances dazzled with performers that we were able to meet and get to know during that weekend. Something that you may miss out on when seeing shows in Vegas, Chicago, or New York.
The highlight of this convention came on Saturday evening during Roger Klause’s Midnight Mad-ness. One of the guest performers was Tim Conover, who asked me to sit on stage with him while he repeatedly made a silver dollar appear under the saltshaker sitting in front of me. Tim’s gentle manor captivated my attention as he performed miracles before my eyes.
That first convention introduced me to a whole new world and, most importantly, to a new set of lifelong friends that I treasure immensely.
I bring this up to remind you of your experience at magic conventions of the past. It just so hap-pens that you have another opportunity to attend a fabulous TAOM convention in Houston coming up this coming Labor Day weekend. But also, to request that you invite someone you may know that has not yet attended a magic convention. Let them share in our experience.
Hope to see you in September.
