Why Is Your Online Presence Important

The digital business card

In the last issue of The Wizard’s Scroll, I wrote about the elements of an effective ecommerce product page. I covered five of those elements that are important to get your ecommerce product page more conversions. This article is about judging how your online presence accurately represents you.

It’s Showtime

Very few entertainers are “on” all of the time. Even the ones who seem to elevate their presence in person when not on stage bring it back a little compared to giving it all to a paid audience. Your online presence is a real chance to be “on” 24/7. And what do I mean by “online presence?” It’s not just your web site. You have to include your Facebook page, Instagram, twitter, Pinterest, and all of the others. While you generally “own” your web site, do understand that all of the other social media holdings are actually the property of someone else. With that in mind, be aware of terms and conditions of their user rights and privacy policies.

Simple Guide For Branding

As much as is possible, you need to address your personal branding across your online line presence. Take these simple steps to guide you in uniformity:

  • Use the same profile image on all platforms (web site, FB, Google My Business, twitter, Instagram, etc.)
  • Use the same description on all platforms
  • Use the same contact information on all platforms
  • Consider multiple account/pages if your service varies significantly, i.e. magic show or dj service.
  • As often as possible, use video and keep it updated.

Speaking of video, you really should get a YouTube channel. I’d even suggest a Vimeo channel. Of course there is Facebook Watch and more. Video gives you an opportunity to show potential clients what they can expect from having you be a part of their event. Get GOOD video. The quality should be better than phone, and post video editing and production can go a long way in making even phone videos sparkle. You don’t have to post a full show, but do show more audience reaction than some knuckle-busting move. Remember, you should be promoting benefits, not features. And seeing audience laughter, smiles, and amazement is a benefit. You doing the latest Shin Lim imitation is a feature.

All Of The People All Of The Time

No, you probably can’t get all of the people all of the time. I would say stay apolitical, but it is much more than that. From ecommerce you might see a place selling t-shirts that promote building walls and another selling t-shirts promoting open borders. The design could be drastically different and the warehouses on different coasts, yet it is quite possibly (and smart business tactic) owned by the same company. I don’t expect you to be two-faced or untruthful, but do be prepared to not engage with some folks. Don’t take it personally.

Summary

There you have it, tips for making your online presence dazzle. This is not the complete discussion, but I hope I got you to thinking about how you are presented online with your website or social media platforms.

If you want to discuss online marketing,  I’d be happy to give you a few tips I’ve come across. https://www.totalmagic.com/what-is-seo/
